Project description

Although most nations provide national shipping forecasts and real-time information for waves in their seas and coastal waters, geographical coverage is not complete and accuracy at local level is low. These current limitations are caused by the relatively small number of in situ real-time wave observations. Nowadays, wave data is mainly provided from few wave-monitoring buoys exclusively dedicated to this purpose. Wave-monitoring dedicated buoys are expensive and require costly maintenance, which hamper the growing of data-generating stations.
